STEM Success Coach

{

In my free time I enjoy reading , crocheting, and going to the gym!

I have been working with STEM U for five years, but my journey began as a college intern while pursuing my Bachelor’s in Middle Level Education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. During that time, I gained valuable experience learning not only what STEM U is all about, but also working with students of many different ages and backgrounds. After graduation, I became a full-time STEM educator, teaching in Florence and Orangeburg schools.

Teaching has always been a deep passion of mine—I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl, and working in this field truly was a dream come true. After teaching in the classroom for three years, I felt called to do something more: to not only support students but also empower other educators. Now, as a STEM Success Coach, I’m able to help students through engagement, STEM career awareness, academic coaching, and mentoring, while also supporting teachers with instructional strategies, curriculum planning, STEM integration, and professional development.
I believe, as Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” That belief drives everything I do as I work to equip both students and teachers for success. When I’m not in a classroom or working alongside a teacher, I continue integrating STEM into my personal life by building LEGO sets. With over 40 sets (and counting!), it’s a hobby that allows me to keep learning, creating, and growing.

Since 2007, I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure of molding the minds of today’s youth. I deliberately chose to stay at one school for over 10 years because I felt as though I positively impacted the lives of my students. Without a doubt, it was a rewarding experience! In fact, I received the prestigious honor of being chosen as Teacher of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year at Huie Elementary.

In my current role as the Middle School Assistant Principal, I have enjoyed supporting teachers with implementing effective teaching strategies in the virtual and brick & mortar environment by means of the coaching cycle, organizing professional learning communities (PLCs), analyzing data in order to inform our teacher’s instructional practices, and collaborating alongside school, district, and state instructional leadership teams to impact student achievement and build teacher efficacy.

Now, I’m thrilled to have an opportunity to work with STEM U as a consultant in order to partner with school districts to bring an exceptional STEAM experience to their scholars!
