Empowering South Carolina’s Future: Goodwill
and STEM U Partner to Launch iNoVate Smart Lab
South Carolina is stepping into a new era of tech education and workforce development. On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands SC will unveil
the iNoVate Smart Lab, a cutting-edge innovation hub designed to prepare learners for high-demand STEM careers.
This new lab represents a powerful collaboration between Goodwill and STEM U, combining shared expertise to create a project-based learning environment where participants
explore robotics, virtual reality, 3D design, and other next-gen technologies.
This is more than just a new lab — it’s a launchpad for life-changing opportunities,” says Monique McDaniels, Goodwill’s Vice President of Community and Workforce Development.
“Together, we’re connecting individuals to innovative tools and resources that will transform lives.” With immersive demos, collaborative projects, and real-world problem-solving,
learners gain career-ready skills in a dynamic setting designed for creativity and growth.
Visionary Leadership
As a premier STEM education and workforce development organization, STEM U played a pivotal role in making the iNoVate Smart Lab a reality. Under the leadership of Christopher Williams
(CEO of STEM U and AINautics; Senior Vice President, USMCA NC–SC Chapter), the initiative translates long-standing priorities—access, employability, and community alignment—
into actionable solutions.
Williams’s advocacy for project-based learning bridges education with real workplace challenges. The iNoVate Smart Lab serves as a space where learners build portfolio-ready skills, educators develop practical integration strategies, and employers connect with emerging talent. This project reinforces STEM U’s mission: expand access to emerging technologies and position South Carolina as a hub for tech talent. Under Williams’s leadership, STEM U continues setting the standard for innovation in STEM education.
